Yesterday morning, I published an essay about !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Fellow Opponaut and personal friend !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! noticed my keenness for vertical c-pillar and rear window angles, shrewdly posted a picture of a facelifted seventh gen Buick Riviera.

BOOM, I was in love

Love at first sight. Screw the Cougars, the 1989-1993 Riviera is where it's at.

With the smooth edges and in that particular shade of Caramel , it looks as sweet as a Werther's candy. Makes you undeviatingly want to place it in your mouth. Ok maybe not !

Please scroll down to admire a selection of pictures I carefully harvested on Bing Images, and have a great day !

While the Riv is always a classy choice, I'm partial to the Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais International (the one with the pissed off 180 hp version of the Quad4 and a 5-stick):

I wouldn't write the cougar off yet, as this gen buick only came with the reliable as all get out but weak sauce 3800 V6. The mission was a bit different. This was intended to be mid level luxury without many sporting pretensions, while the Cougar was bridging that gap. It would be a hell of a cross shop to write about though.

And no I don't have any good stories about acid, monkeys and kidnapping like I did with the cougar, but I have been in 2 of them I can think of

I always loved the first generation N-Body cars. They were pretty much the car of my childhood. I can still remember picking up my mom's first brand new car: a 1984 Buick Somerset! I eventually owned that Somerset (it was well worn by then), and later a pair of Grand Ams (one was even a fairly rare 2.5 liter, 5-speed car).

I'll give you the highlights:

First, the 1986 Pontiac Grand Am Turbo:

And the later Grand Am SE (with available HO Quad4:

And there was the downright plush Buick Somerset:

... and then Buick took the Somerset racing:

And the most pissed off version of the N-Body that you could buy with a warranty was the Oldsmobile Quad442. It was based on the Cutlass Calais International, but left the heavy lower body cladding at home and brought the W41 version of the Quad4 instead:

Here's a neat article about the Quad: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/cars-that-time…

I was a stupid teenager and it had 232,xxx miles on it when retired. It was great, always had power coming out of the GM 3800. Did probably $2k worth of work to it in the 5 years I drove it, INCLUDING tires.

That car spoiled me, it had EVERY factory option. I was a baller, I had a CD transport deck AND a cassette player.

Olds Toronado Trofeo definitely is a good one, so is the '89-'93 Riviera. I prefer the bigger, more powerful last gen Riviera though. Supercharger ftw!
